LWV-RMA Advocacy Program

The League of Women Voters of the Richmond Metropolitan Area (LWV-RMA) promotes political responsibility through informed and active citizen participation in government and acts on selected governmental issues.

The LWV-RMA shall not support or oppose any political party or candidate.

The LWV-RMA supports the principles and advocacy positions of the League of Women Voters of Virginia and the League of Women Voters of the U.S.

The LWV-RMA supports:

Open representative government. Open citizen participation and representation in governmental boards and commissions.Fiscal policy and citizen participation. Open and active inclusion of citizen input in the development, adoption, and implementation of the budgets of all metropolitan area governments.

Regional cooperation. Regional cooperation in the provision of government services to meet the needs of citizens of the metropolitan area.Regional transportation. An efficient, multimodal, economical regionally planned, financed, and managed, balanced transportation system.

Regional land use planning. Comprehensive, cooperative, and enforced land use planning in the metropolitan area that preserves permanent open space and develops pleasing roadways.

Public education. Equality of public education for all, including gifted and handicapped students, which includes cooperation among school divisions; provision of up-to-date information; community involvement in school policies, programs, and budget processes.Child care. Child care programs that meet the social, mental, and physical needs of young children.

Health care. A health care system that provides access for all residents and controls health care costs.

Housing. Availability of sound, affordable housing without discrimination.
